While wisdom teeth may have been beneficial in the past, they often pose more harm than anything else in modern times. When you start to notice pain in the back of the mouth and you are between the ages of 18 and 25 with otherwise good oral health, it could be a sign that your wisdom teeth are beginning to erupt. Erupting wisdom teeth can lead to crooked and crowding teeth and a higher risk for oral infection, which is why Dr. Ifraitekh offers wisdom tooth extractions in Austin here at Snow Dental. Call our dental office today to determine if your wisdom teeth are posing a threat to your oral health!
Treatment steps will vary depending on the condition of the wisdom tooth itself. For example, if the tooth is exposed, we can easily remove it from the periodontal ligament and extract it using dental forceps. However, if the tooth is trapped underneath existing gum tissue, a small incision will be made so we can easily access the tooth. We may also need to break the tooth into smaller pieces and remove them individually. Prior to treatment, we’ll make sure that your mouth is thoroughly numbed with local anesthetic.
